Literacy Activities
- Read with your child everyday
- Write in a journal (Sentence starters: I like, I went, I played)
- Make ABC cards (Hide them and go on a scavenger hunt, say the letter sound and words that starts with that letter when you find it, play Go Fish & Memory)
- Make a Tic Tac Toe board to play using the sight words
- Write letters or sight words in the snow, or a pan filled with rice
- Play Starfall on a tablet or computer (starfall.com) to practice letters, letter sounds, reading and word games
- Download the App Letterschool and practice upper and lowercase letter formation
- Create a puppet show
- Interview someone in your household asking them questions about themselves (How old are you, what is your favorite food, What is something you are good at? etc)
Math Activities
-Go on a number hunt (Hide # cards around the house. Have your child find the numbers. When they have all been collected put them in order)
-Build a tower/structure. How many blocks did you use?
-Play card, dice or board games with your child (Crazy 8's, Go Fish, Memory, Face Off)
- Go for a walk and count things in nature (try to count to 30 or higher), find 3-D objects, look for patterns
-Find some objects in your house and create patterns (ABC, ABB, ABAB, etc.)
- Using an empty egg carton cut off one end to create a 5x2 ten frame. Using a deck of cards, pick a number and show that number in the ten frame. If you want a challenge use 2 egg cartons and show numbers in the teens.
Movement Activities:
- Go play outside 2 or 3 times a day (RECESS TIME!!!!)
- Go for a walk or bike ride
-Run up and down the stairs counting each stair as you go as high as you can count
-Make a dance/superhero/gymnastics routine
- create a hopscotch/obstacle course
- Do some yoga together
- Bake something
